We combined a couple of traditions tonight while we had Karlton here! First was our Bethlehem Dinner. The kids were asking how this tradition got started. I think it was the year when Clint was a baby and we took the nativity photos. We had the costumes, so we thought we'd try a Bethlehem type dinner for a FHE lesson. We really liked it, so it became a tradition. We usually do this one Sunday evening in December. We sit on the floor with the lights off and a candle. We eat pita bread with meats and cheeses and fruits and whatever we think they might have had in Bethlehem. We sit around and make up stories about who we are and why we've come to Bethlehem. We always end the dinner with a special Christmas story. It was Karlee's first time, and she had fun!
Next it was time for SUGAR COOKIES! Everyone's favorite tradition! I generally roll out the dough, the kids clamor to cut out everything from traditional snowflakes and angels to sharks, dinosaurs, airplanes, and mutant hybrids. The kids steal the dough to eat, I yell at them. The cookies smell so good as they bake. I make way too much frosting. I don't like blue frosting, but I make some anyway. We spill sprinkles all over the kitchen. Wes tells us to leave a few cookies unfrosted for him. We eat too many, but they sure are delicious. That's pretty much how sugar cookie day goes at the Thompson house!!

A Christmas Story
Wes and I played the "comic relief" at our Ward Christmas Party on Friday night. We were the Mother and the Old Man from A Christmas Story. We just had a couple of "run on" parts. It was pretty fun!
We brought the leg lamp home to put in the front window for a few days!

Hangin' With Baby J
Lucky us! Last night we got to tend this little sweetie while her family went to see A Christmas Carol. She's practically family, since she's Karlee's niece, and we love her! She was just too cute, I had to get out the camera. She charmed Clint:
She got just close enough to Cider:
She wasn't too interested in the Christmas tree, just happy to sit underneath it. How cute is this face?
Look at that Bear Bum...
We decided this kid will be a techie, she wanted to play with the phone:
The Kindle:
And the stereo:
Her Momma thought she might get sleepy, but does this look sleepy to you? I don't think so!
So fun! I think this was a good trade for Colton for the evening! ;)

'Tis The Season
It's gingerbread time! One of my favorite weekends of the year! I spent Friday and Saturday baking the gingerbread and assembling the houses and trees. Mmmmm... smells so good!
I had my big bowl of pomegranates!
Old and new favorite Christmas CDs.
Lights on my tree.
And a little squishy for company!
Sunday evening it was time to break out the candy and decorate!
And here they are! The finished creations!
Clint's house sported this awesome Spree shingled roof:
Colton's had a big snow drift on one side:
Karlee proved that she can decorate with the best of the best! We loved her pretzel and marshmallow A-frame roof:
I hoarded all of the pink candy this year:
Kori tried something new this year with her forest of trees:
Wes turned his "trees" into volcanoes. Only a geologist...
Cider lay there like a slug...
We also ate some chocolate cookies. As if we needed any more sugar in the house.
And listened to lots of Christmas music!
The aftermath:
Of course it's worth every bit of preparation and clean-up. Such a fun time! And we are completely full of Christmas spirit now!!
