Not older, just better! Wes has been buffalo hunting (but no luck) since the day after Christmas, and he is on his way home today just in time for birthday presents, chocolate pudding, and ringing in the new year! Here are our top 5 reasons that everyone loves Wes:
1. He's so helpful! You need a tool? You need an idea? You need a favor? Wes is your guy. He has a very giving heart and is always willing to help anyone out.
2. He's so handy! His garage is full of tools, and he knows how to use all of them! We can't believe the things he knows how to do, and if he doesn't, well, he'll figure it out for sure!
3. He's so friendly! He just loves people. He never wants to hear gossip or anything bad about anyone, and you can always count on him to see the good in everyone.
4. He's so much fun! Just ask his former Cub Scouts how much fun he was at Pack nights. Whether it's recreational sports, playing games, vacationing, or just hanging out with his homeys, Wes always knows how to have a good time.
5. He loves his family! That's why I married him, because he treated me so well! He oozes with love and concern for us, and never lets the chance go by to let us know it! We love you too, we think you're the greatest guy on earth, and hope this year is the best yet!

Merry Christmas 2009!
It's the most wonderful time of the year! We shared our Christmas with Grandpa Mike and Grandpa Pauline and Aunt Michelle too. Here are some family quotes from Christmas 2009:
Dad: "Toffee didn't make a nest, but she did chirp like a bird." (huh?)
Grandma Pauline: "You have to look with your hands." (Grandpa said it right back to her.)
Kori: "Twas the night before Christmas and por todo la casa, not a creature was stirring - caramba, que pasa?" (Christmas Eve talent show)
Aunt Michelle: "Hand me that ribbon for my kitty mobile." (while opening gifts)
Grandpa Mike: "That one looks like someone's bum." (referring to our sugar cookies!)
Mom: "Don't touch my pomegranates!" (and that means you!)
Colton: "Puppies are like pillows." (soft and warm)
Clint: "Christmas isn't about the giving or the receiving, it's about the loving." (that about sums it up!)
And a bonus, our favorite from neighbor Kennadee: "If I had a red nose, everyone would want one!" (they certainly would, Kenna!)
Merry Christmas and Happy 2010!!

Merry Texas Christmas, Y'All!
Wes and I managed to sneak in a very quick getaway over the weekend. We flew to Austin, Texas for the Texas Bio-West office Christmas party. We were there Friday and Saturday. Wes has been there a few times, but this was my first time in Austin. It was 65 degrees and sunny, aaaah! It felt nice for a couple of days. We ate soooo much food! The party was at a really nice restaurant in downtown Austin and we had some fresh seafood, yum! We stayed at a hotel right on the river that runs through town and we took a few pics there:
We saw some strange things there too! We had a great time, even though it was super fast!

Give The Boy A Hand!
Look, Ma! I can use both hands! Clint finally got the pins out of his finger and he's learning to use his hand again. Hooray! Mom won't have to help him write his homework anymore!! It's been a long haul, and he will still have some physical therapy for a while, but Clint has handled this whole ordeal incredibly well. Here's a picture of Clint's hand, and here are the pins that used to be in his finger, ouch!

A Sweet Tradition
We have never made gingerbread houses before, so we decided to try out a new tradition this year. It was very fun, everyone was really creative and they turned out so cute! Maybe next year we'll try some bigger houses if we dare!

Today's Top Ten List!
I have been listening to all of my beloved Christmas music the past few days, so I decided to blog about my favorites. Here are my top ten favorite Christmas CD's that I own:
#1 Donny Osmond Christmas at Home - My favorite of all, it is full of meaning and romance. "Come To The Manger" is quite possibly my favorite Christmas song ever.
#2 Vince Guaraldi Trio A Charlie Brown Christmas - All the original Charlie Brown Christmas music. This is one I sometimes keep out and listen to all year long.
#3 Harry Connick Jr. When My Heart Finds Christmas - The original HC Jr Christmas CD, and still the best! Makes me melt.
#4 SheDaisy Brand New Year - Original, energetic, fresh, and even a little weird, this one is such fun to listen to, love these girls' harmonies.
#5 Michael Buble Let It Snow - It only has a few songs on it, I wish he'd do a complete Christmas CD, but hey, it's still Michael Buble!
#6 Ray Conniff's Christmas Album - The Ray Conniff Singers were a huge part of my childhood, and although this one does not include the quintessential family Christmas morning song, "Here Comes Santa Claus", it's still a great CD.
#7 Jon Schmidt Christmas - I have the piano book for all of these songs and I wish I could play them like Jon! I think he is pure magic.
#8 A Partridge Family Christmas Card - This one is a total guilty pleasure, I mean, the Partridge Family? But I just love the groovy 70's sound, David Cassidy's cool voice, and "My Christmas Card To You" is one of my faves.
#9 Celine Dion These Are Special Times - I'm not normally a Celine Dion fan, but someone gave me this Christmas CD and it's awesome. She really does have an amazing set of pipes.
#10 Marie Osmond's Magic of Christmas - A little bit country and a little bit rock and roll, this one has a wide variety of styles and a lot of original songs. Even better, she sings most of them as duets with members of her family. Of course, her duet with Donny, "When Christmas Comes This Year" is my favorite on the CD.
Hmmm, now that I've written about 10, I can think of about 10 more that I love too! Maybe next year I'll have a brand new list of favorites!

Christmas Past
I've been getting out all of our Christmas decorations, and I am having some melancholy thoughts of Christmases past. This is one of my favorite photos of my kids. We even dressed up our dog as a sheep. She was a good poser! This was 11 years ago, my how time flies! One of our family's favorite holiday traditions is having a Bethlehem night. For one of our family home evenings during December, we all dress up in "Bethlehem" garb, turn out the lights, spread a blanket on the floor, and, by candlelight, eat a simple meal like they would have had in Bethlehem. We usually eat pita bread, meats and cheeses, and fruits. Sometimes we read a Christmas story, and sometimes we make up stories about the people we might have been at the time of the Savior's birth. We are grateful for the Christmas season and for our Savior, Jesus Christ. I wish I could make the season last longer, just like I wish I could have kept my kids little for a bit longer! But I am grateful this year for the remarkable people they are becoming. I am proud of their accomplishments, but mostly of their thoughtful, giving hearts. I am a lucky mom. Love you kids, love you Wes, and I'm looking forward to a wonderful holiday with all of you!

California, Here I Come!!
Mission Call!! California Arcadia Spanish Speaking!! The call came yesterday and he will leave for the MTC on Feb 10! He is very excited to be serving a mission. He didn't really have a preference, but he thinks California sounds great, and learning a language will be awesome too! We are all thrilled and proud of Colton. This will be a wonderful time for all of us.

Pomegranate Season
Aaah, it's pomegranate season, hooray! I've been eating at least one or two of these lucious fruits every day since I could get my hands on them at the store. In fact, I'm eating one as I'm typing this. I think pomegranates are my favorite food. I love the flavor, and the crunchy seeds. Best of all, they are super healthy and naturally fat free!! I started a new contest at the gym which is testing our body fat, and I have a lot of work to do to get mine down! So I need all the help I can get, I need my delicious pomegranates! I just wish I could get them all year round.

Broken Finger Update
Well, things did get worse after all. Unfortunately, Clint's broken bone was not staying in place, so he had to go in to the hospital yesterday and get some pins put in his finger. This was major surgery, but Clint did really well. The hardest part was fasting all day. His surgery wasn't until 4:30! And because he hadn't had anything to drink, his veins were hiding, and it was pretty rough getting an IV in him. But he is one tough kid. What a trooper!! Here he is before he went in:
And here he is coming out of anesthesia:
So not too bad! He's still feeling a little dizzy today, but he's not having pain, and we're glad about that. Hopefully now we'll be on the uphill swing of this! He will probably keep these pins for a couple of weeks until the bone starts sticking together. Who knew a broken finger would be such a big deal??

Dress Up Friday
This is how everyone looked this morning as they headed out the door:
Cutie Cowgirl Kori
He wanted to work the "glove" into his costume. His costume is complete with glitter socks! He was practicing the moonwalk this morning, I don't know if he's going to show off his skills at school or not.
No, it's not Christmas yet, it's just Wes dressed as one of his partners, Paul Holden. You have to know Paul to understand this costume. Trust me, it's hilarious. He even has the ponytail!
And that's it for today. Tomorrow's Halloween, so more costumes are surely in store!! Have a fun Halloween and be safe!

And here's a preview of our poor kitty, who doesn't like to be dressed up at all. We continue to make him into a Halloween cat every year. We thought this costume was timely. Since our cat's name is Kevin, he's dressed as "Kevin", the mama bird from the movie "Up!"

The Clint Splint
Last Friday, Wes and I were both called to Clint's school to pick him up since he "wasn't feeling well." When we got there, we found him in the office with an ice pack, white as a ghost, and very dazed. Turns out he had gotten hit in the hand in PE while playing dodgeball. When he tried to alert his teacher, he got queasy and actually fainted - twice!! We loaded him up and took him straight to Emergency where they x-rayed his hand and found a broken index finger. He got a temporary splint for the weekend, and then he got this nice plastic splint with the totally 80's hot pink straps. He will wear this for 2 or 3 weeks, and he'll start physical therapy next week. Clint was actually pretty excited to have broken a bone, and he's quite proud of his battle wound! The realities are hitting him this week though. It's pretty tough to do school work without a working right hand! We are trying to help him as much as we can at home, and his teachers have been very understanding. The important thing is to get him healed properly. That's an important finger and we don't want to lose any range of motion. We're glad he hasn't had a lot of pain, and that it wasn't any worse!

Shoe Favors
Check out these fun shoes. I found these on the internet and had to try them. I used them for some thank you gifts and birthday gifts this month. They're very fun to make, and you could use them for anything! Any woman would love a new shoe!! Visit the link to find the template.

Blue With A Capital "B"!!
Clint is finally back in his bedroom! It has been a long 4 1/2 months without a bedroom of his own. It all started back in May with the freaky rains that flooded Clint's room. It took a while to get the pad replaced and carpet re-laid. Then we decided to repaint since everything was out of the room anyway. Between Mom being busy, and unmotivated (mostly the unmotivated part), the painting took quite a long time too. But it is finally finished and the furniture is moved back in. We call this paint "painter's tape blue" because it is the exact color of the blue painter's tape. This might be the cleanest we ever see Clint's room too!!

Everything From A to Z!
It's UEA, the kids are out of school, so we headed to Hogle Zoo! This baby elephant is the big attraction right now. Her name is Zuri, and she's just as cute as you can imagine. She is lively and just adorable!
We went with our neighbors, the Wallaces. We call them the Wallabys, hence the sign!
Shouldn't these animals be behind the fence!?!
Thanks Wallaces for a very fun day!

This One's For Jamie!
Just checking to see if you're paying attention ;) Here are Jamie and Michelle circa 1985, in our apartment at Ricks College. I wish you could see the rest of our outfits, I'm sure they were fabulously 80's. That's our Hawaii wall behind us (along with a Miami Vice poster of course.) We were on the countdown to BYU Hawaii. Such fun memories, one of my favorite years! I'm glad we can keep our friendship alive, Material Girls Forever!!

Homecoming Dance
I guess it's truly a Homecoming, since Colton is going back to his old high school for the Homecoming dance! His very beautiful (and nice and sweet and fun) date is McKinzie Moore. She is a Senior at Sky View this year.
Since McKinzie has connections at the florist, she had a boutonniere made to match the corsage we had ordered!
After spending the day horseback riding up at Bear Lake, these two clean up very nicely. I think they make a cute couple!

In A Fall Kind Of Mood
I know, I know, everyone is trying to hold on to the last bits of summer, but I have to say it: I love the Fall! It is my favorite time of the year. It's been a little cooler in the evenings lately, and as my mom would say, feels a little "Fallish." I love the colors of Fall, the foods, the clothes, the holidays and the leaves! I sometimes feel like a gypsy in the Fall and want to just fly away somewhere. This year though, I'm looking forward to settling in to more of a routine, and getting some things done around my house! Happy Fall!!

Kate is Eight! Kate is Great! Kate has a chocolate cake! The cake makers were at it again for our cute friend Katie's eighth birthday! Since Katie loves horses, we made a chocolate brown horse cake and it was yummy! Happy Birthday, Katie, we're so glad you're our neighbor and friend!!
Hey you eight year old cutie patootie!!
Here's a real horse for you, Katie, her name is "L"!
