Top of Utah 1/2 Marathon
At the beginning of July, my good friend, Shauna asked me if I would walk the 1/2 marathon with her. "Sure!" I said, "I could do that!" We registered with 2 other friends, Ranae and Susan, and then I thought "wait, CAN I do that?" 13.1 miles is a long way to walk, so the training began! We started doing long walks on Saturdays. Since the 1/2 marathon route is mostly downhill, we trained going down Smithfield canyon. Our first long walk, I had shin splints, and I was chafed all over. I got some expert advice from my friend RaLee, who not only runs marathons, she wins them! She gave me some socks that she loves, and I got some better clothing, shoes, and body lubricant. I normally walk for an hour a few mornings a week, but who knew that walking for longer and at a faster pace would necessitate all these changes? But it seriously helped. We had a great race, coming in at 3:05 which is fast for us! The temp was just right, and the Blacksmith fork canyon route is gorgeous. 2300 runners were there, and it was organized, wonderful volunteers, we just had a blast! I never thought I would do something like this, and I'm proud of all of us for finishing. Thanks, Shauna, for getting us on board!
Here we are ALMOST at the finish line:
We finished together, and were happy with our time:
All smiles after we were done, Susan, Ranae, Shauna, and me:
My awesome hubby and daughter came to give us support:

Yay for you. I seriously need a copy of Kori's photo of the month. PLEASE
How awesome!! I'm so excited for you. I'm getting prepped to do the rim to rim in 2 weeks. We walk from one rim of the canyon to the other. Kinda exciting!
