Salmon Run 21

After a fun apple picking day at Colton and Karlee's house, Kori and I went to see the salmon. There didn't seem to be as many this year, but we still enjoyed seeing the ones that were there. It was a beautiful day!!

Wyoming/South Dakota Days 4 and 5

Day 4 we left South Dakota. We drove across Wyoming a different route, through Newcastle and Casper. We stayed that night in a cute old west town called Dubois.

Day 5 we drove to the Grand Teton National Park. We drove straight to Colter Bay and were disappointed to see that it was completely empty. Bummer. Wes would really like to take the boat to Jackson Lake sometime. We spent the rest of our time hiking to Leigh Lake, all the way around String Lake, and to Jenny Lake. Such a pretty place! We drove the rest of the way home through Alpine and Star Valley. We were happy to sleep in our own bed again that night. So glad we took this trip! We loved everything and had so much fun!!

Wyoming/South Dakota Day 3

Mount Rushmore day! We were both very impressed by Mount Rushmore. We thought the monument was well designed, parking was easy and accessible, there were lots of different points of interest, a movie, displays, sculptor studio, bookstore and gift shop. Plus we were able to walk right up underneath the carvings and get pretty close. We saw a cute deer trying to get across a sidewalk. Everyone stopped and coaxed the deer and made room for it. It was hesitant but finally scooted across the sidewalk. After Mount Rushmore we drove out across an Indian Reservation to see an edge of the Badlands. Wes has always wanted to see the Badlands. We didn't have much time to really explore them, but we at least stopped and saw a portion. We then drove through Custer State Park, another impressive place! We saw two lakes, and the second one, Sylvan Lake had some super cool geology. We spent quite a bit of time in Custer State Park and still only saw a little bit of it. After that we visited Crazy Horse. The museum was huge and the movie was really interesting. I wish we could have gotten closer to the actual carving, but since they're still working on it, they have to keep us at a distance. We saw lots of wildlife on this trip including elk, turtle, big horn sheep, chukkars, fish, squirrels, prairie dogs, a caterpillar, mule deer and white tailed deer.
