Bike Rides And Big Checks

The boys and girls separated for different events last night.  Wes and Clint went on a long and muddy bike ride for Young Men.  This is how Clint looked when he got home!

Obviously they had a great time.  Our driveway is still full of mud this morning.  The Priests and Teachers are trying to do a lot of biking to get ready for their Moab trip in a couple of weeks.  Kori and I went to Rumbi and then to Sky View's Scholarship Awards Program.  2.9 million dollars worth of scholarships were handed out to Sky View students!  Impressive!!  Kori got a certificate for her GHA scholarship and this big check for her WPMA scholarship.  Other kids got bigger dollar amounts, but nobody else got a big check!  The audience chuckled and she got lots of attention for it!  It was so nice of the WPMA man to be there to present it to her since she won't be able to attend their convention in the fall.  He came and talked to her after and asked her all about her schooling and such.  It was really nice.

Memorial Day

Another Memorial Day celebration.  We had lots of fun with Grandma and the Ju last night at our house.  We enjoyed all the cemeteries and Big J's today with the rest of the gang.  The flowers are as beautiful as ever.  I missed Margo this year.  Her dad recently passed away and we were going to bury some of his ashes beside Grandma and Grandpa.  Margo was tied up in Arizona and couldn't come this weekend, but hopefully she'll be here soon.  Sonia joined us though, with her little cutie Korban!  She had a fun time hearing all the stories and I hope she'll make it a tradition!

The Red Dress

First, a little history.  This dress was hand stitched by Kori's Great Grandma Veleta and first worn by Grandma Pauline in 1957.  She wore it in the Miss Franklin County Pageant where she was crowned 4th attendant!  She was 19.  I SO wish we had a photo of Grandma wearing the dress!  We think there is a slide somewhere and we are going to hunt it down.  When we find it I will add it to this post!  I wore the dress in 1985.  I had recently lost my Grandma Veleta and I wanted to wear it for sentimental reasons, and because I thought it was so beautiful with all that red lace!  I wore it to the Ricks College Preference Dance, and my totally 80's date was my good friend Shane Pratt.

Flash forward to 2013.  50's style and red lace is high fashion right now, and Kori has been wanting to wear the dress for a long time.  She wanted it to be for something special, so she waited for her Senior Ball.  We had a little tailoring to do, which made me nervous, but also helped me feel a kinship with my Grandma as I worked.   Kori wanted it a little shorter.  We also took out the zipper and put in a lace up back.  Here it is on Kori before...

And after... She looks SO CUTE in it!  It's her dream dress and she's been so excited about wearing it!

Kori's date is her good friend, Kolton.  She has a really fun group too with some of her best friends.  She had the "best day date ever" earlier today.  They were on their way up Cove canyon to do some paintballing when they stumbled across the American Medieval Reenactment Society's annual retreat!  They went to check it out and ended up staying all afternoon!  They learned all about medieval history and armor and watched some epic battles.  Sounds like a lot of fun.  They never did go paintballing!  I guess they'll have to do that another time.  Kolton and Kori looked awesome together!!

And a PS... Grandma came on Sunday and was so tickled to see Kori in the red dress.  Here are the "ladies in red", 1957, 1985 and 2013, wow!

Senior Week

Kori snapped a few photos from all the festivities of Senior Week.  Can you believe she's really done with high school?  These first ones are from the Senior Sunset.  Sky View has the coolest traditions!  They do a Senior Sunrise at the beginning of the year and a Senior Sunset at the end.

The kids wanted the SV lit up for the end of the year, so here is Kori's BAGA plus new BAGA and new Exec up on the hill placing the lights.

This was just to prove that they could squeeze Seth into the back of Kori's little truck!

And finally, last night was the Senior Class Passing the Torch.  I LOVE this tradition!  The Seniors all showed up at the school in their caps and gowns.  They had a short program, and then an open mike allowed Seniors to tell their favorite moments from their Senior year.  After that, they went out the front doors, lit their candles, and walked a lighted path to the stadium where they sang the school song with the SV all lit up in the background!  Part of this tradition was to pass the torch to the new Senior class.  Really cool and no doubt a little emotional.  Now it's on to a few more fun events and then Graduation next Thursday!!
