Wes survived thumb surgery this week. He has a huge cast on his arm, and his thumb needs to be immobilized for a few weeks. Say goodbye to waterski Wednesdays! Wes usually says really funny things when he comes out of surgery, and the kids always tell me "take a pad of paper to write down all the funny things Dad says." This time was no exception, and here is a list of our favorite funny things:
"I am beeping."
"It sounds like a bag of licorice." (referring to his ice pack)
"Are my glasses on?"
"Have I said anything outrageously funny yet honey?"
Wes: "That's what I had in the ER, I had a snake on my leg."
Nurse: "What was it? A python, an anaconda?"
Wes: "I think it was a reticulated python."
"That guy with the beard's still across the highway."
"If it takes a chicken and a half a day and a half to lay an egg and a half, how long does it take a guy with a broken thumb to come out of anesthesia?"
"I don't want to get sunburned. Heh, heh, heh, there's something funny for you to write down."
"The snake on my leg's going again."
"What else they got here? Got any donuts?"
"I had some weird dreams."
"Watch out for Idaho men. He's not driving a tractor anymore. He's on the road with other drivers. Has some rules to live by."
That last one is referring to the old Idaho duffer who almost ran into us as he swerved in to our lane while turning on 14th North on our way to the hospital. Thankfully we didn't have an accident, but it got our heart rates up for a minute! The anesthesiologist kept Wes just a little loopy, but not all the way out while he had surgery. She said that he talked to her the whole time and told her about his camping trip and all kinds of stuff. As soon as surgery was over Wes said to her "Dang, I missed the whole thing!" He doesn't remember anything about the surgery itself. But that's okay. We're glad to have this part over, now let the healing begin!
