Broken Thumb

Caution:  Disturbing images ahead!  Look away if you don't want to see!  Wes broke his thumb on Thursday while loading up the motorcycles for a camping trip.  He was riding Clint's little bike from the backyard around to the front, accidentally hooked the handlebar on the swingset, and the swing whipped around and caught his thumb, smashing it against the handlebar and flipping Wes right off the bike.  As soon as I looked at the thumb, I said "let's go to emergency."  It just didn't look right to me.  But Wes, being the hardcore that he is, said "let's give it a while" and proceeded to load up the motorcycles and camper.  About 2 hours later, he finally conceded and we went up to emergency.  He has an avulsion fracture which means part of the bone broke off.  He can't straighten the top part of his thumb, so the doctor thought the part of the bone that broke off might have been holding down the tendon.  If he has tendon damage, he could be in for surgery and who knows what else.  Luckily it's his left hand, and the pain hasn't been too bad.  We are going to the hand specialist tomorrow to see what's next.  Broken hand or no, Wes and Clint still went camping!  Here are the icky photos:
