The Bitter And The Sweet

It has been an emotional month around here!  It's that time of the year when the kids are trying out for next year's activities, and both Kori and Clint wanted to try out for student government.

First - Kori tried out for Sky View's Executive Council.  These are the student body officers that pretty much run all the school activities for the year.  She had to apply, and then make up a skit to perform in front of the school.  She had this awesome Mario skit that she WORKED HARD on!  She had props and a costume and a backdrop and everything and her skit was fantastic!  She was trying out for the office of Historian against two other students.  We thought for sure she would sail through the primary elections since her skit turned out so well.  But sadly, no.  She lost by just a handful of votes.

Second - Clint tried out for Sky View's Sophomore Class Vice President.  Yes, he will be a Sophomore next year, can you believe it?  Clint has one of those really great classes of kids who are super involved, and unfortunately for him, there were a ton of kids trying out.  Sadly, he didn't make it through the primary elections either.  I felt so bad because I wasn't home the day that he found out.  He called me and I could tell he was pretty bummed.  Kori took him out for ice cream and he was feeling a little better when I got home.  I'm really proud of him for putting himself out there, and hopefully he will try out again next year!

Third - Well, third time's a charm, right?  This week, Kori tried out for Boys And Girls Association (BAGA.)  They are student body officers that are kind of in a supporting role to the Exec.  There are 3 girls and 3 boys who are on BAGA, but the tricky thing is, the kids don't choose what office within BAGA to run for.  They have to apply and go through an interview process, and then last year's BAGA and their advisers choose which kids will be in the election, which office they run for, and who they run against.  Again, a ton of kids tried out, and luckily Kori made it through to the final election for BAGA Girl's Secretary.  Unfortunately, she was running against one of her best friends!  Today we found out that Kori won.  We are so happy about it!  We're also sad for Kori's friend, and hopefully it won't damage the friendship in any way.  All of the other BAGA kids are Kori's good friends and she is really looking forward to a fun year, especially being able to plan Homecoming Week.

I'm so proud of my kids for trying out and getting involved!  Clint, it's too bad you can't win 'em all, but there are life lessons in losing and hopefully you can be grateful for the experience and what you've learned.  And I hope you have a wonderful Sophomore year wherever it takes you!  Good luck Kori on BAGA.  I know you'll do a fabulous job and your Senior year sounds like it will be a blast.  Letterman jacket, woot woot!
