Everyone was really excited about learning to surf. I graciously bowed out so that I could take pictures of everyone else. ;) We hooked up with our instructor, Karen, and headed out to Pua'ena Point in Haleiwa!
First, some instruction and safety warnings. It was a little crowded out there. I was surprised that she took us to a real surf spot with real waves. Yeah, I know... I don't know exactly what else I was expecting, but this was for real!
After a little practice on dry land, they headed out with their boards!
All of them got up at least a little bit. Kori says she wasn't up, but she was! Here's the proof! Wahoo!
Colton did really well, he's built for this kind of sport and he has lots of experience with wakeboarding and longboarding.
Karlee is a total surfer girl. She got up easily, she was smooth, and she loved it! She's ready to move to Hawaii!! ;)
Clint was super excited about the lessons! He loved surfing too. He had one really long excellent ride right at the end of the lesson.
Wes had done a little surfing before, and of course, he loved it!
Instructor Karen said she's been living and surfing in Hawaii since 1978! She sort of introduced us to Jack Johnson's brother and his boys! That was as close as we got to a celebrity sighting in Hawaii, kind of cool.
Everyone was tired after their lesson. They said the paddling was a lot of work! But they were all smiles!
I love this shot! I am so proud of all of you for surfing, and I'm totally impressed with how well everyone did!
